How to Check Your CentOS Release or Version

To check the CentOS version , you can use ” cat /etc/centos-release ” command,. “centos-release” is a file reside  in /etc directory “redhat-release” and “system-release” are the link of this file. This command works with all CentOS versions.

[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/centos-release
CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core)
[root@localhost ~]#

Or

[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core)
[root@localhost ~]#

 
Or

[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/system-release
CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core)
[root@localhost ~]#
